The American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) is holding a webinar on the healthcare disparities and transitions challenges of youth with ASD and their caregivers. This is a description from the website:
Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience a wide variety of health care disparities and challenges accessing health care. These disparities and challenges impact individuals with ASD, their families/caregivers, and medical providers in a variety of ways. These challenges are compounded as they transition from pediatric to adult-based care settings where medical teams and providers often have less experience in caring for individuals with ASD. We will discuss these challenges from both the patient/family perspective as well as the medical provider perspective. Learning objectives will include 1) Understanding the health care disparities affecting adolescents and adults with ASD, 2) learning the barriers patients with ASD and medical providers caring for them face in achieving high-quality care as they become adults, and 3) understanding the novel model of care that is currently being developed at CAST.
The webinar will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd, 7:30PM-8:30PM Central Time.
